Mussar—Jewish Character Literature

 

Life is a journey. Having a spiritual guide like Rabbi Miller to help you understand your place in life can be an island in the storm. Rabbi Miller guides the spirit by drawing on the wisdom of Judaism and his own thoughful philosophy. His understanding of human nature and the search for inner peace helps direct your journey and sheds light on how you view yourself. Rabbi Miller’s insights are valuable tools for spiritual growth and healing.

Mussar is the Jewish literature dedicated to personal improvement and improvement of the character.  In fact, Judaism believes that one’s character is imprinted on one’s soul, and therefore one’s actions are recorded there for all time.

 

I teach a regular mussar class on Shabbat afternoons (click here for schedule) that explores the fundamental texts of this genre of Jewish literature:

 

  • The Ways of the Righteous
  • The Duties of the Heart
  • The Accounting of the Soul
  • The Path of the Just

 

I am also available to teach classes about mussar, and to facilitate private mussar groups or individual mussar study.
