Funeral and Memorial Services

If you are clicking on this page for anything beyond idle curiosity or educational information, please accept my condolences.

Whether you are seeking specifically religious support from a Rabbi, or just support from me as a clergyperson experienced helping people at times like these, I am here to help you.

If you are reading this page in an “at-need” situation (you have an impending death or a loved one between death & funeral), the 3 people you need to be in contact with promptly are:

a)     me

b)     the funeral home or mortuary

c)     the cemetery

Each of the above entities will likely have scheduling constraints.
DO NOT MAKE ANY “FINAL” ARRANGEMENTS UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH ALL THREE OF US

The time between the death of a loved one and the funeral or memorial service is the only time in a Jewish person’s life when there are no religious obligations on them.  Why is this important?  It demonstrates how truly difficult a time it is—the demands and expectations of family and friends; the questions, guilt, regrets, relief, shock, and/or exhaustion; the overwhelming number of things to be done—this time, above all else, is a time for kindness to self.

Your friends, your family, your community are—with any luck—available to help.  LET THEM.

And I’m here.  Give me a call and I will be honored to help however I can.
